Ralph Alcock

Born in Yorkshire, Ralph Alcock had a career as an academic in Scotland, Ireland, Australia and the USA before returning to the UK to take up a post as Principal of an FE college. Since retiring, he has completed two crime novels (Hidden Identity and The Loving Son) and is currently working on his third. He is also the author of an engineering textbook and still undertakes some consultancy work, mainly on issues related to sustainability.

Ralph began by writing short stories for his children and his own enjoyment. He still finds an audience for these stories in local schools. He was invited to read from The Loving Son at a fringe event of the Association of Writers Conference in Boston, USA and has had a number of book signing events at Waterstone’s stores in the West Midlands.

Loving Son. Paperbooks Publishing

This is a story of the strong bond between mother and son, whose relationship contrasts starkly with that of William and his proud and arrogant father. Jealous of his son’s musical talent, he is equally jealous of his wife’s success. It is against this background that William’s world crumbles when he is charged and convicted of murder.
